That will teach me to fill out a survey..

On my way to class, going to be late if I don't get there in 5 mins. I walk into the building and get bombarded by someone asking me if I want popcorn from her at a booth. I was kind of in a hurry and thinking, "popcorn would be nice as munchies in class" so I decided ok sure, why not? She tells me that before I can take it, I have to fill out a 1 minute survey.

I look at the survey and its about religion. Oh boy! This is going to be interesting. First of all, the survey took 30 seconds really so that was a plus. Second of all, the questions were quite personal, going from questions like: "When was the last time you went to Church?" and "Do you believe that Jesus ever existed?" These kind of questions are pretty personal to everyone and so even though I wasn't quite comfortable (considering she was watching me fill it out... making me feel very warm and on edge), I finished the survey, took my popcorn and left.

I got to class on time, that was pretty good. But one downside to filling out that survey (which I didn't even eat the popcorn, what a waste) was that I got a call from them asking me if I want to visit their booth and learn more about their program (Catholic Christian Outreach).

I thought to myself, "how bad could it be? Just go in, check it out before class, and get out!" Or so I thought.

I got a one on one talk with someone from the program and she convinced me (because I can never say no to people so that I don't hurt them) to go to "Faith Study". Seriously? Me? Faith study? Grrreeeaaaat!

So now I told her I would go, but she still hasn't called me to come. Good news for now, but what if she does call? I have to be in a discussion and talk about God and the bible.

I hope she doesnt call. It took me all the strength I possessed not to contradict her in the things she told me about God and the relationship we have with him.

Oh well, I guess we'll see what happens. I want to believe in something, but sometimes, it just doesn't happen. Its hard to believe in something that doesn't exist. I'm one of those... i know. :P

Honesty... its a tricky thing...

You know, after taking several classes in how to listen properly, how to formulate a proper apology and how to tell someone how you feel about them in a way that doesn't offend them, really opened my eyes to proper communication.

Even though I have this knowledge to back me up when something bothers me, not everything happens the way its supposed to.

Take for example today! I lost a close friend of mine. I've only known her for 3 and half years, but hey, we had a lot in common. I tell her one honest thing, she blasts me and has now deleted me on facebook. Wow, as if being deleted off Facebook these days means something real. Insane!

Anyway, its ridiculous how even after high school, people in their 20s still act like they're in their teens. Its disturbing and at the same time, its a waste of precious time and effort.

You know, friends come and go, so its no biggie, but sometimes its hard to let go those that affected you in a most profound way. The way she did, she was a great listener. but was horrible at actually understanding the most simplest of things which led to many fights.

Oh well, life is tough. You take what you can get and you figure out how to deal with it.

I lost a friend today, I'm one day closer to finding out what kind of person I want to share my secrets with and hang out and shop with.

Well, I'm back for my quarterly blog. Yeah, I know, I don't write too much... Work and school will do that.

I'm just so bored right now. I wish I could be a good writer. Or have someone discover me as a great singer. Travel the world maybe... ARGH! I don't know what I want to do. Life just sucks. Its true, my life could be worse, I am certainly greatful to have a job, a family, money, friends, etc. Having no direction in life changes that perspective though a bit.

I don't know what to do. I hope that sometime soon, I can figure it out. I'm tired of not knowing.

confusion... why must we feel it?

So, I'm sure I'm not the only one around here feeling the same way. Why do we need to feel confused all the time? Why can't we be certain of something everytime? I want to be certain of what I'm going to do with my life, my career, etc. But I can't because I have to feel confused about it first.

How fun!

I'd love to be one of those people who know what they want to do in life. I'd love to say: "I want to be a doctor, or a lawyer. Now I just have to figure out how to reach that goal." Unfortunately, I'm the complete opposite: "What's my goal? What do I want to do? Where do I go? What do I like to do?" I HAVE NO CLUE!

Should it really be this hard? Its not like I was never involved in anything when I was younger. I took dancing lessons, music lessons, Jiu-Jitsu, took theater classes, participated in school carnivals, went camping, played baseball, went to see hockey all the time, travelled a lot with the family. I wasn't really deprived of anything that could broaden my horizons to an interesting career. I was brought up to be very open to any career.

Now here I am several years later, with no idea what to do. How can this even be possible? Too many possibilities? Too many choices? Was I not born with decision making capabilities?

I'm not in my second program of post-secondary education. Still no clue what I want to do. Hopefully one day, I can look back at what I really like to do, and work off of that in a drastic way to really open up my eyes to what I want to do.

Life! URGH!

An Activist or not an Activist? That is the question...

So I follow Perez Hilton as well as other sites for celebrity gossip for fun. No harm in that. One problem, a wannabe activist poser is interfering with the news and imposing beliefs on others.

I don't like hypocrites, who does really? But I just can't keep my mouth shut on this one. When you are pro- anything, thats great! when its not hurting anyone! When it starts to hurt someone or an entity either physically or mentally, thats when its not cool anymore.

Perez Hilton is gay. Okay, thats fine. No problem there. He makes big deals about things that shouldnt be a big thing when it comes to gay rights. Okay, problem.

Perez has 43 posts up to now on Miss California Carrie Prejean ranging from dates April 20, 2009 to May 20, 2009. He was one of the judges at the Miss America pageant where he asked Miss California the question: "What do you think about same-sex marriage legalization?". To that, she said in her family, the way she was brought up, she believes in a man and a woman being wed. She also said she had nothing against those who are gay, it was just the way she was brought up.

Okay, so honestly, this should have ended here. She has the right to her own opinion regardless of her title of Miss California. But Perez took it too far and actually made the media and those in the Pageant organization to question Miss California's title and if she should lose it because of her beliefs.

As usual, Perez usual irrelevant information to condemn Miss Prejean as a bad person. He goes on to talk about the semi-naked pictures she took before she was even Miss California. He also talks about her being abused as a child. When did this gay-rights situation even come to talking about abuse? Why does that even need to be talked about? Her decision to tell the world the truth about her beliefs in opposite-sex marriage has nothing to do with her being abused. I've taken psychology classes, and honestly, no connection. Its not the kind of information you give out to the public about someone who has only given respect to others.

But, just as usual, Perez doesn't stop there. He is now saying that Nigel Lythgoe from "So You Think You Can Dance" is homophobic. I actually watched that episode this week and nothing Nigel said was in any way homophobic.

This week's episode was the first of this new season and was a 2-hour auditions episode naturally. Well into the second hour, two men, one straight and one gay, came onto the stage and started dancing together. Even though when concentrating on the dance itself, they made several mistakes, two men dancing together can easily be defined as awkward, whether they are gay or straight.

Well, Perez overreacted and said that what Nigel said about them was homophobic. Nigel, as well as the other judges, not just Nigel, told both men that when they think of dancing, they think of a woman and a man.... Wait a second, did they say something bad about people who are gay? I think... I THINK Perez is confused. Not once did the judges talk about the sexual orientation of the men in question. They commented on two males dancing together and how it would be producing a malaise in the competition as it is not customary for two men to dance close proximity dances.

How in any way is this talking about their sexual orientation? As usual, this is overreaction from the Hilton camp. Not only did this become a problem for him, now the GLADD's (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) president Neil G. Giuliano commented on Nigel Lythgoe's comments on the show: "It’s unacceptable for this kind of blatant homophobia to occur. Fox Entertainment and Nigel Lythgoe owe Misha, Mitchel and the whole LGBT community an apology."

Really? Are you kidding me? I'm completely pro-gay rights and all, but this is getting ridiculous! Apparently the media and organizations don't know when is too much. When is being an activist going to far? When does taking things too seriously get annoying and frustrating? I think its when people take things way out of proportion and look for hidden meanings in comments that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

Honestly, get over it guys, be for gay-rights all you want but don't start harrassing people and making stories up to get your way. Its just as worse is being against gay rights. Counter-productive!!!!

just a little side note sort of reminding me of current personal events...

.. just wanted to say... don't you just hate hypocrites? I absolutely hate them! On my top 3 things that I hate the most for sure. You know, the type that will get all mad and argumentative with you and then just leaves things like that, with nothing resolved. Then, later on that day, the person is entirely okay with you even though you didnt even talk about what happened earlier that day? Like c'mon, we both know we aren't on good terms, why lie about it to my face? Ignore me, be mad at me, thats what you're supposed to do when you aren't happy with someone.. not just put a facade on and pretend like nothing happened. Sorry but you aren't someone I want to talk to right now unless its to resolve what just happened, and I don't want to talk to you even more if you're going to be such a hypocrite and pretend like nothing happened...

Don't you just hate people like that? Urgh! I do. Pisses the crap out of me!!!

Well everyone... we're on the 13th day of the Oc Transpo strike.

How is everyone doin'? Did you get to your exams okay, students? Did everyone find a ride to finish their Christmas shopping? How about buying your groceries? Did you end up taking a taxi spending a chunck of cash you could have used somewhere else or even then, saving it?

For someone who this Oc Transpo strike affects, this is getting ridiculous! I finished my Christmas Shopping yesterday. For those who know me, I am fairly organized and finishing my shopping yesterday can not be tolerated.

I took a taxi the other day to get to a friend's place to hang out. Throughout the entire 20 minute taxi ride, the Taxi driver was finding every excuse to talk about the strike. I thought: "okay, sure i'll bite". So we started talking about it. Now, this is the type of thing you don't discuss with me as it clearly affects me in every way. Well... he doesn't know me so he thought why not?

Well, let me tell you that by the end of the taxi ride, I just wanted to jump out before he even stopped the car. He wouldn't let me have a word in at any point in the conversation. He would ask me a question and once I started, he would cut me off and automatically contradict me. Everything I said was wrong. "The bus drivers have my support 100%. They deserve more than what those people are giving them." But him, someone that has a car, that can work in these conditions, does his opinion really matter if he doesn't even take the bus?

Unfortunately, I didn't discuss this further with him as we reached my destination. Needless to say, not everyone in this city wants Oc Transpo back.

The one thing that bothers me is that this is affecting the entire city, not just one type of class or certain titles. Everyone! Students, Seniors, Government/non government workers, those in poverty, etc!!!

I just hope soon enough, someone makes a decision and sticks by it. For this issue not to be deemed essential was the one big mistake the government has made.

Go out in the city and see the paralyzing society. Those who cannot leave their homes... those who have no choice but to leave their homes without transportation and walk 4 hours to get to school (this is an actual situation). From reading some posts on forums for certain articles on this issue, some have lost their jobs because they live in the country and could not take a bus to go to work.

Is this really what we need? A society crumbling because of this strike ill-timed. People say the Oc Transpo drivers are affected as well... Let me tell you.. They won't be as affected as we are until they come back as some have already threatened to be "naughty" this season.

All I have to say is Good luck Oc. And Hope everyone out there is doing ok with carpooling and taking different routes as well as going in at other times than usual.. Hang in there!!!

Christmas Show

Hey Everyone... For those who know me, I sing. I participate now at a Conservatory of Vocal and Dance training. I really enjoy it and decided to participate in the show this year. Later on today i'll post a video of my performance but as for now, i'll just talk about it.

The show was great! I sang This is Me from Demi Lovato. I know, its a christmas show but we didn't have to necessarily sing christmas songs. So it was great! Some people sang christmas songs like Holy Night and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Some others sang stuff like Walking on Sunshine, When the Lights go Down, and Gunnin'. So it was pretty fun to see the diversity!!! Also, the cutest thing ever was a broadway group of 8 year old girls doing Its a Hard-Nod life, was just the cutest thing in the world. Some forgot their lines some didn't remember where they were supposed to go and the person that would boss them around was shorter than any other girl there. It was priceless.

The show is going to give out dvds of the performance once everything is compiled. I think that's a pretty cool gift from an 8 year old.

I definitely enjoyed my experience and am looking forward to other experiences in the future.

University the only option?

I'm here at Starbucks trying to study and all I can think about is what I'm going to do with my life. I constantly feel like my time here at school is pointless, will get me nowhere, its not for me. I know I can go to university, I know I have the marks to be successful. I know that most places, to be successful, a university degree is essential. You can get by with a college diploma but you can't really go places.

I've never been like that though. I've always tried to try singing, music, anything of the sort. My parents though, were never for the arts. "Arts won't help you get far; its not reliable. No security and maybe even no money." Well with this in mind most of my high school life, I was confused in what I wanted to do. I now realize, it doesn't matter is I might not make that much money. Will I be happy? Isn't that what counts?

I've thought about it the last couple of days and honestly, I believe school isn't everything. I don't think that going to university in something I'm not interested in just to make money is the right way to go. Every one is different! We wouldn't have farmers if we all needed to go to university, for example.

Anyway, I just wanted to talk about this a bit so that others out there who are thinking the same and are confused, its not a necessity to go to university to do what you truly want. I'm not saying don't go to university, but if its not for you or if you believe college or training elsewhere would be more beneficial, go for it! I'm totally supportive of anyone doing this. You don't have to listen to what your parents tell you to do. This is what you will be doing, not your parents.

Jonas Brothers the new Hanson?

Hey everyone... So obviously, I've been away for a while kind of neglecting my duties as blogger :P, but I'm here now, school isn't so bad that I can take a little time out of my day to write you a little snippet of blah!

I was talking with some friends this weekend and something hit me: The Jonas Brothers remind me of Hanson, the 90's band that every girl swooned over at the time. I don't know about you guys but when Hanson came out, I absolutely loved them! Jonas Brothers, I will admit, are on my list now of bands I enjoy listening to.

The Jonas Brothers are this decade's Hanson. Its incredible! First of all, girls go crazy for them, second of all, any song they have on the radio hits the roof how much its loved, and last, they have amazing voices.

The only difference I can see really is the appearance: the hair :P. One group has long straight hair (Hanson) and the other has curly hair (Jonas Brothers).

I think that the Jonas Brothers will have much more success than Hanson, even though Hanson are actually touring right now and haven't stopped making music.

All in all though, We live for bands like Hanson and Jonas Brothers! Keep on singing fellas!!!

Heroes on the chopping block?

What is wrong with society? Is reality TV too good a concept that actual interesting symbolic and meaningful television shows are no match for you? Are you kidding me?

It seems to me, from articles on the net and interviewees, people don't prefer shows like Heroes, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Samantha Who?, etc. They prefer shows like: Survivor, American/Canadian Idol, Dancing with the stars, The Amazing Race, etc.

I understand the attraction. I used to watch Survivor in its first two seasons. Sure it was fun at first, but honestly? It got boring; too monotone and déjà vu with every other season!

And what about shows like Dancing with the stars and American Idol? I agree its entertaining but is it as entertaining as Heroes or Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? Or even 90210? I remember premiere week this fall where 90210 had a great opening episode but the week after, it sank because of Dancing with the stars premiering. Its stuff like this that are causing our good fun fictional shows being canceled.

Check this out everyone! I just read today that Heroes might be the next show to get the ax. I find this infuriating. Here, you have a great show. Its not necessarily for the whole family but its a fun concept, its always interesting and every show has its ups and downs, I can't deny that. But to let this show die because of which person Paris Hilton wants to choose as her BFF is playing at the same time? URGH! Utterly ridiculous!

Think about it next time. Reality or Fictional, what we've always watched since we were kids. The shows that made it possible to create new amazing fictional shows. Its always been there and with your help, it always will. Reality TV has got to go! Who's with me?

Bad, Bad, Bad

I don't know how many of you are actual Twilight fans but I am a HUGE fan and When I saw this picture on Perez Hilton's blog, I almost choked. This is HORRIBLE! Robert Pattinson smoking? Is he nuts? I understand he's free to do whatever he wants but come on, smoking isn't the answer, its not the answer to anything.

I hope he sees this or someone tells him to stop because smoking will not go good with all the fans of him. There will definitely be some talk going around and in interviews and such, it might come up. We hope! lol.

Even though, he's still a hottie!

Long time no type...

Hey everyone... I'm so sorry it took this long to write... It's been midterm crunch time and so I had lots to do. So how were the midterms actually? Mine went okay I suppose. Nothing out of the ordinary. Anyway, on to other news!

Did you all hear about Jennifer Hudson and her family? Its such a tragedy to hear of something like this actually happening. In Chicago, her mother and brother were both slain this past weekend and her nephew has yet to be found (even though officials say they've found the SUV deemed the car that might contain the child, but have yet to confirm his identity). This is so tragic. My thoughts go out to the Hudson family for this horrible ordeal they must be going through.

Think of them if you can folks, this must be a really hard time for them.

That's pretty much all I had to say. I'm going back to doing some homework for a while. Talk to you all soon!

Hey people... So did you guys here the newest huge scandal? Madonna and Guy Ritchie are officially getting a divorce. Isn't that crazy? I think it is. They seemed happy I guess but who knows what really happens behind closed doors?

On to more "important" things...

The Canadian election was yesterday and oh ho! surprise, surprise, the conservatives won. Well, I'm not even going to get into this because I want nothing to do with politics. The only reason I'm bringing it up is that the Decision 2008 aired when 90210 was supposed to play. ARGH! Evil people!! So I didn't get to watch my 90210 :( Oh well, next week then.

I think this is sooo cool. I know some of you might not care, but as someone who used to say this all the time, and, like in the video, not really realizing what I was saying, this is very important for you to watch.

Not only does it value homosexuals, but also heterosexuals. The first, in the way we aren't representing "gays" as bad or stupid, like in this video where she says her shirt is "gay", meaning bad. The second, in the way that, if we say we accept those with a different sexual orientation than us, saying "that's so gay" makes us such hypocrites.

Think about it next time you have the urge to say something or someone is being so "gay".

Call Centre woes...

URGH! I can't stand it.

For those of you who don't know me, I work at a call centre where anyone in Canada can call to order NRCan publications. Now, when people call, they actually think we are the government.

This infuriates me!!!!

I'm minding my own business trying to do my job when someone calls and just blasts at me for not being able to answer her question. Either I don't have a phone number to give her, I don't have the answers she's looking for or I'm just not the type of expert she intended to call.

I can't believe it!!! I understand what they mean when they say they are frustrated and hate the whole run around. I know for a fact that trying to reach the government, whichever one it is, isn't an easy task. But you don't have to yell at me for it. I'm not the government (thank goodness) and does not represent them in any way.

SO STOP YELLING FOR NOTHING!!!

I find people so ignorant its incredible. They think I have all the answers like I'm a genie or the smartest person in the world. Well it isnt the case.

ARGH! I think that's so hypocritical. They aren't happy with me because they think I'm the government, but at the same time they go crying to their local MP's for answers. Wow, mature ones you guys are!!!

Anyway, for any one who has every worked or is working at a call centre right now, trust me, I feel you're pain.

Hey everyone... so I was reading my daily blogs today and found out that Beyonce has put out a new single, a cover from BC Jean entitled: If I were a boy.

Now, personally, I don't like this song. I do respect Beyonce very much, she does have talent. I just don't respect this song or her singing it. Honestly, I almost fell asleep. I know i'm being harsh to those Beyonce fans, but seriously, you cannot think this cover is in any way a great one.

I was a bit skeptic at first when reading the lyrics before hearing the actual track, but to my surprise, its actually pretty catchy. It almost seems as if she never had that huge gap of a break the last couple of years.

Beautiful "Fall" Day

Hey everyone... This is my first time writing here and I just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope everyone is having a good Monday morning. Here in Ontario, Canada, it's pretty chilly but still beautiful. Time for layers, layers, layers!!!

I'll just explain to you all who I am and what I do so you know who you're speaking with as well as why I'm writing this blog and what it's for.

My name is Nykki. I am currently a University student hoping to become an elementary teacher or even high school teacher. I'm writing this blog on the side of working and school purely for fun. I'm using this blog to express myself artistically (poems, lyrics, etc.) and semi-professionally :P (discussion topics, polls, opinions given on certain events and/or activities).
